What you'd want to know
Hot-and-cold recovery suite inside the BLOK Clapton studio, occupying the lower floor of the Grade II listed Victorian Tram Depot on Lower Clapton Road. Industrial brick walls and steel-truss roof overhead in the main studio; the HOT + COLD room is a quieter annexe behind. Four rectangular cold-water baths (6–12°c) each fit two people, framed by timber duckboards. A large Finnish sauna in cedar with tiered benches faces the baths. Three rinse showers between the two zones. Concrete floor, soft warm pendant lighting in the sauna, cool natural light in the bath area. The yoga and strength studios are on the other side of the building. The full membership model means most users come 3–4 times a week.
Overheard
- the guided session is the proper way in first time — an instructor walks you through breathwork, the cold baths and sauna sequence, then mobility. don't go self-guided round one.
- four cold baths at 6–12°c, two minutes is plenty. up to twenty minutes in the sauna — don't try to push the heat.
- recommended 3–4 times a week. the regulars build it into their weekly class schedule, not a one-off thing.
- the sauna is finnish-style, dry heat — not aufguss, not banya. expect quiet, not music or theatre.
- the blok membership includes hot+cold — if you're already paying for blok yoga or strength, it's already in your plan. don't book separately.
