What you'd want to know
7,000 sq ft bouldering gym tucked inside Surrey Quays Shopping Centre, occupying the former Dorothy Perkins and Burton retail units on the ground floor. A modern, shopfront-fronted unit — wide glazed entry, signage in red and white. Inside: clean white-painted walls behind plywood climbing boards in slab, vertical and overhang, with brightly coloured resin holds in red, yellow, blue and lime. 130-plus boulder problems set across the space. A small café counter to one side with timber tables and bar stools; a strength-training corner with weights, hangboards and a campus board. Mid-grey crash matting throughout. Suspended ceiling and recessed strip lighting overhead, with retail-mall daylight bleeding in through the front glass.
Overheard
- it's the smallest of the arch sites and the friendliest — 130 problems means you'll see the same lines twice in a session and start to read them.
- natural light through the glass mall ceiling makes a real difference in winter — weekend afternoons feel warmer than the basement walls elsewhere.
- the bermondsey bouldering crowd's local. weeknight after 6pm pulls the regulars; weekend mornings are quieter and easier for first-timers.
- strength corner with the hangboards and campus board is at the back. don't touch it until you've climbed a few sessions — it's for the regulars.
- shopping centre location means parking is easy and you can pick up dinner on the way out without leaving the mall.
