What you'd want to know
Small neighbourhood bathhouse on the Stoke Newington edge of Hackney. A wood-lined Finnish-style sauna with cedar plank walls and tiered wooden benches, a glass door with warm orange light spilling through. A central cool plunge pool set into a terracotta-tiled floor with steam visibly rising off the water. A separate steam room beyond, smaller and lined in cream tile. A simple changing area with brass hooks on the wall, a low wooden bench and neatly folded white robes. Low warm lighting throughout. No luxury-spa polish — closer in feel to a Scandinavian community sauna than a hotel spa. A doorway off to one side reveals a tiled corridor leading to a small reception desk with a wooden counter.
Overheard
- friday nights are the warmer, chattier sessions — mixed and easy. weekday mornings are quieter, almost meditative.
- the single-sex sessions run through the week if you're not ready for mixed. they're not advertised loudly, just check the schedule.
- the 12-person finnish sauna is the one. infrared is fine but the finnish is where the heat builds properly.
- the plunge pools sit either side of the contrast loop — four to five minutes in the sauna then thirty seconds in the cold. repeat three times.
- multi-session blocks are cheaper if you know you're coming back; most regulars are weekly.
