What you'd want to know
11,000 sq ft modern, glass-fronted climbing centre on Burnt Oak Broadway in Edgware. A clean rectilinear shopfront in dark steel and full-height glazing. Inside, the climbing floor divides into ten zones — mostly overhanging boards, a long slab wall, two stand-alone boulder islands, a horizontal roof and a barrel-wave feature. Plywood walls behind painted dark grey, holds in coral, mustard, sage and indigo. A 45° training board, gym rings, fingerboards and a strength corner along one side. A coffee bar with timber counter, espresso machine and bar stools. Retail shop at the entry with shoes, chalk and tape. Crash matting in muted slate runs the length of the climbing floor; recessed ceiling lights and tall windows letting in daylight from the street.
Overheard
- natural light through the front glass is the whole point — weekend mornings the wall is bright and quiet. by 6pm weekday it's a different room.
- the ten zones look like a lot. start on the slab and the lower-angled boards — the overhangs and the roof are not where you learn to fall.
- the induction is mandatory for first-timers. they cover how to fall and how to read the colour grades — don't skip it.
- the coffee bar is in the climbing room not separate — you'll see people in chalky hands ordering espresso between rounds.
- staff change the routes regularly. ask at reception what's just been reset — the new lines are where the regulars head.
