Started by Paul Sinton-Hewitt CBE at Bushy Park, October 2004. Injured and unemployed; wanted to keep running with his friends.
Our take
The purest repeat-attendance engine on this list. Free, weekly, same course, same 9am — the cadence does the work the 50-hour rule predicts, and the volunteer roster gives regulars skin in the game.
The catch: a 5k is a run, not a hang. The friendships form in the post-run coffee, not on the course — so the parkruns that build community are the ones with a café everyone walks to after.
