What you'd want to know
Independent outdoor sauna on the timber boardwalk at Western Beach, Royal Victoria Dock — founder-led by Victoria Maddox, opened 2022. A single large 12-person wood-fired Finnish sauna cabin sits at the dock's edge on a deck of timber duckboards.
Cedar exterior, blackened steel chimney, tiered benches inside facing the dock through a long horizontal window. A cold plunge bath sits on the deck beside the sauna; access to the dock itself for swimmer cool-downs.
Steel-truss cable-car towers of the IFS Cloud gondola rise to the south; the Excel Centre and Crystal building stand across the water. Wide open sky over the dock; canal-boat moorings nearby.
Coat racks and timber benches under a simple awning; a small reception hut at the entry.
Overheard from locals
- ceremonial sessions like aufguss, saunagus and pirtis are how most regulars come back — the bath master leads the round. don't skip the ceremony on round two.
- full-moon nights, women's bath nights, storytelling and pourings sessions run on a monthly schedule. check before you book a regular slot.
- textile-free options exist alongside swimwear sessions — check which session you're booking. it's not always swimwear.
- the cold plunge sits dockside but the dip is the dock itself when temps allow. most regulars do the dock dip in summer, plunge tub in winter.
- founder-led means victoria or a trained bath master is often the one running your session. you'll see the same faces; it's a small community.
