Board game cafés and clubs are built for strangers: you sit at a table with people you do not know, you play, and the game does the talking. A regular night turns a pick-up game into a standing group before anyone has decided to organise one.

A board game has a rulebook, and a rulebook is a social excuse made legal — it gives a table of strangers something to do together for an hour. Cafés and clubs run open nights precisely so a solo player can sit down with three people they have never met.
The 11 Spaces below all run an open or recurring session a beginner can join alone. Arrive without a group and the table sorts itself out; the same faces claim the same night each week.
