What you'd want to know
Compact basement bouldering gym in the City of London, accessed by stairs from Aldgate High Street. Roughly 145 sq m of climbing across plywood walls in slab, vertical and overhang, with bright resin holds in red, blue, yellow and lime. A long traverse wall runs one side; a Kilter Board sits at the back. Walls otherwise painted clean white, exposed concrete ceiling overhead, recessed strip lighting in the soffit. Mid-grey crash matting throughout. A small training corner with hangboards and a free-weights area sits beside the main climbing floor. A modest reception and retail counter by the entry stairs stocks shoes, chalk and tape; gender-neutral toilets and showers tucked off to the side.
Overheard
- the 06:30 weekday open is when the city office regulars get a session in before work — walls empty, no queue at reception.
- beginner socials run on a roster — turn up alone, you'll leave knowing three people. that's the design of the event.
- 145 sq m means it's compact — you'll see most of the floor in one session and the same routes start to read.
- the spring league runs across all three city bouldering sites. one entry, three walls — it's how people use the network.
- fridays after work are the loudest. tuesday and thursday mornings are the quiet window if you want to climb at your own pace.
