A community garden is shared ground: you take a patch, or a shared bed, and you tend it with a regular crew. They run from a single raised bed behind a station to a full food-growing site, and the weekly work is the way in — plants need tending on a schedule, and so does the conversation.

Growing food in the city is a weekly practice, not a visit. That is exactly why community gardens make regulars out of the people who show up: the shared plot supplies the task, and the task supplies the talk.
The 19 Spaces below all welcome volunteers and beginners on a recurring basis. A shared bed gives you something to tend every week, and the growing season sets the timetable for you.
