Pottery is the rare London hobby that is genuinely slow: you learn to centre the clay, pull a wall and glaze a piece over weeks, not an evening. It is also unusually sociable for something done with your hands, because everyone at the bench is failing at the same stage. The studios below run beginners' courses, open benches and taster sessions, so turning up alone on the first night is normal.

The craft rewards attendance more than talent. Throwing, hand-building and glazing all improve with repetition, and a kiln firing takes days — so potters keep the same weekly slot and see the same faces for a whole term.
The 16 Spaces below all give a beginner a route in — a weekly course, an induction for open access, or a drop-in session. Each keeps you at the same bench with the same people week after week, so a term ends with faces you know.
